Director. The
Department of Software and Information Systems at UNC Charlotte seeks to hire a
tenure-track faculty member at the associate level to serve as Director of the
recently established Center for Digital Identity and Cyber Defense Research
(DICyDER), http://www.dicyder.uncc.edu/. DICyDER’s mission is to add value to
the university, community, and society through innovative educational programs,
research and development in the areas of information integration, security, and
privacy. The Department is dedicated to research and education in Software
Engineering and Information Technology applications, with emphasis in the areas
of Information Integration & Environments and Information Security &
Assurance; it offers degrees at the Bachelors, Masters, and Ph.D. levels. Current faculty members have strong research
programs with substantial funding from both federal agencies and industrial
partners. The position will begin Fall 2009; salary will be highly competitive.
Responsibilities. The Director will be responsible for leading a strong
research program by communicating research vision, planning and implementing
research strategy, facilitating contract acquisition and relationship
development, and providing project and group management. In addition, the individual
will have all the duties of a tenure-track faculty member within the
department, including advising students in research; serving on dissertation
committees; maintaining research productivity; and providing service to the
university, community, and profession. The individual will be expected to teach
undergraduate and graduate courses, and further develop the curriculum in the
areas of information integration, security, and privacy.

seek faculty colleagues to join a high achieving, dynamic, and growing College of Computing and Informatics. The college
and the Department of Software and Information Systems strive to develop a deep
understanding of computing technology and its implications. We have a strong

a Ph.D. in Computer Science, Information Technology, Software Engineering, or a
related field, as well as a strong commitment to research and education.
Setting. The
Software and Information Systems Department is a pioneer in Information
Technology research and education. We offer a wide selection of courses in
Information Technology and Software Engineering emphasizing the design and
deployment of IT infrastructures that deliver integrated, secure, reliable, and
easy-to-use services. Our security and privacy program is recognized by the
National Security Agency as a National Center of Academic Excellence in
Information Assurance Education and Research. The department is part of the College of Computing
and Informatics, one of the few colleges in the U.S. devoted entirely to the
computing sciences. The University of North Carolina at Charlotte is a doctoral, research intensive
university located in one of the nation’s fastest growing metropolitan areas on
an expanding modern campus. It is part of one of the oldest public university
systems in the United States.
